SPX Enables Developers to Create Immersive Game Audio Experiences |
| Santa Clara, CA (March 7,
2002) - Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE:ADI) today announced that it will make its advanced
audio rendering technology, SoundMAX(R) SPX, available to PlayStation(R)2 computer
entertainment system developers through the Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.,
Tools and Middleware Program. PlayStation(R)2 game developers are now able to
incorporate SPX "animated audio" - realistic sound effects that change in
real-time in direct response to a game player's input - into their new game titles
for the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system. Analog Devices will be demonstrating the latest version of its SoundMAX Audio Rendering Technology Toolkit (SMartTools) at Sony Computer Entertainment America's Developers Conference (March 7 - 8). The collaborative tools will allow sound designers and audio programmers to create cross-platform hyper-realistic SoundMAX SPX "Animated Audio" through the use of advanced audio algorithms. Titles from publishers such as Sony Computer Entertainment, Electronic Arts and Infogrames are currently shipping with SPX technology. "Interactive audio technology, like SoundMAX SPX, represents the most immersive sound effects experience available," said Beth Doherty, Director of Business Development, Analog Devices, Inc. "SoundMAX SPX enables PlayStation(R)2 developers to create game titles that render unique, non-repetitive sounds in real-time thus giving games a virtually infinite number of audio effects."
