Extreme Racing, Insane Environments and Outrageous Sleds in the Latest Game to Ship for the EA SPORTS BIG Brand |
| REDWOOD CITY,
Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 12, 2002--Unleash the power of extreme sleds as players
navigate some of the most treacherous environments in gaming. EA (Nasdaq:ERTS) announced
today that it's shipping SledStorm for the PlayStation® 2 computer entertainment system.
SledStorm, inspired by the critically acclaimed PlayStation version, features all the
astonishing environments and gigantic tricks one would expect from the BIG brand, with
innovative sleds and characters including Hollywood voiceover talent from movie star
Matthew Lillard. The in-game sleds are inspired by cutting-edge technology from Redline(TM) Snowmobiles. Additionally, more than 30 unlockable sleds are available in the game that create an over the top racing experience. Each sled has its own unique characteristics that are specialized for different environments. The quad sleds are very stable with superior traction, whereas the mono-track sled is known for its great acceleration and top speed. All 41 sleds are unique to individual riders and as the gamer progresses and wins races; they earn the different high performance sleds needed to compete on the advanced tracks. Seven environments offer a broad range of scenery and diverse terrain throughout their global locations. Take on other riders through excessive inclines and dangerous drops off snow-capped mountains in exotic locales such as Sweden, France and Argentina. Every course features unique shortcuts and incredibly dynamic scenery, loaded with a variety of smashable objects. Driving through and shattering barriers and pylons builds up a player's STORM meter, providing a user-selectable boost to the sled. Courses such as Bermuda Berg, Polar Fest and Beast from the East create the craziest racing environments imaginable. Matthew Lillard, from the movie 'Scream,' who will be seen this summer playing Shaggy in the highly anticipated film, 'Scooby Doo,' provided voiceover for SledStorm, adding color commentary with announcer, Mean Gene, from the WWF. The ultimate competitive cast of racers includes seasoned rider, Tracey, who brings a contemporary style and experience to the mountain, TJ, the 'one to avoid', who's in-your-face aggression is as much his personality as it is his riding style and Niklas, ``the techie'' who delivers quirky, yet extremely agile, quad tracks on the steepest of challenges. With each character on his custom sled and distinct riding style there is an immense breadth of gameplay. The hard driving music soundtrack provided by Project Wyze, Overseer and Sulphur keeps the game rolling. The sound effects and music are delivered with DTS 5.1 surround sound. SledStorm is rated ``T'' (Teen) by the ESRB. SledStorm is analog controller compatible and supports one or two players. Consumers may purchase the game directly at the EA Store(SM) (http://www.eastore.ea.com), or by calling EA Direct Sales at 1-877/324-2637, for a suggested retail price of $49.95.
