Babel launches Europe's first sound studio for games

Ambitious outsourcing games specialist Babel has announced the next stage in its expansion by launching a London sound studio aimed specifically at the games industry.

The company can now offer clients a fully integrated localisation service that encompasses translation, casting, audio, graphics localisation, integration and testing. Major European publisher JoWood is already using the studio to localise its best-selling strategy game The Guild (Die Gilde) from German into English.

Based in the heart of Clerkenwell, the studio caters purely for games companies and will not serve other sectors such as advertising and broadcast. Consequently, games producers can keep their costs down while using specialist gaming whose credits include PlayStation Formula One, Unreal Tournament, Jimmy Neutron and many more.

Babel also has links with all major voice talent agencies in London and the rest of Europe as well as partnerships with major European audio specialists. This means multiple in-country recording at competitive rates with a single point of contact at Babel. The company is also creating its own pool of voice talent specifically for the games industry.

"The industry has been crying out for a London studio dedicated to games. Major publishers such as Infogrames and THQ are now coming to us with a view to using our full suite of services," said Algy Williams, Managing Director of Babel.

The launch of the studio continues Babel's impressive start to 2002. The company has recently launched technical, editorial and print departments in response to clients' demands. Earlier this year, the company also launched the world's first wireless compatibility lab for games.
