Hires Marketing Veterans to Lead Consumer Marketing Efforts |
| SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2002--Dolby Laboratories announced that it has created a new consumer
marketing group by tapping the expertise of veterans from leading consumer electronics and
PC companies as well as its own cinema department. Dolby takes this bold move as it
prepares to enter new markets and expand its leadership role in firmly established areas
of consumer electronics. The company has hired Ronald Vitale as director of consumer marketing. Reporting to Mr. Vitale are Patrick Artiaga, director of automotive and broadcast marketing; Craig Eggers, director of consumer channel marketing; and Greg Rodehau, director of PC and gaming technology marketing. Mr. Vitale reports to Richard Hockenbrock, vice president, licensing operations. "We're very pleased to welcome Ron and his team -- Patrick, Craig, and Greg -- into the division and look forward to drawing on their substantial marketing expertise in driving Dolby technology into both new and existing markets," said Richard Hockenbrock, vice president, licensing operations. Mr. Vitale will oversee the consumer marketing department, which works with Dolby's marketing staff in Europe, Japan, and China to establish global marketing strategies for all consumer technologies licensed by Dolby, including Dolby® Digital, Dolby Pro Logic® II, Dolby Headphone technology, MLP Lossless®, and Dolby Virtual Speaker (see accompanying announcement) as well as companion initiatives, including Surround in Motion(TM) (for Dolby technologies in mobile applications) and Dolby in the PC (see launch announcement). He also oversees the support functions for the consumer marketing group, which includes marketing communication and business planning. Mr. Vitale brings to Dolby over 20 years of global marketing experience in software and hardware consumer products. Before joining Dolby, Mr. Vitale worked at several IT companies including Apple Computer and 3Com Corporation. Most recently, he directed the advertising, public relations, product introductions, retail channel development, and field marketing for 3Com's Internet appliance division. Mr. Vitale holds a BS in business administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, with postgraduate studies at the London School of Business, England. Patrick Artiaga is responsible for marketing strategies involving Dolby's Surround in Motion initiative, which was launched in 2001 at IFA in Europe and 2002 at CES in the US. He will also lead efforts to advance Dolby technologies in digital TV broadcasting and reception. A ten-year veteran of the motion picture industry, Mr. Artiaga began his career managing customer relations for Lucasfilm THX before joining Dolby in 1997 as director of distributor relations, working closely with the motion picture industry. He holds a BA in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from St. Mary's College of California. Craig Eggers will lead Dolby's efforts to expand the influence of its technologies in consumer electronics markets. An 18-year veteran of the CE industry, Mr. Eggers spent 13 years with Toshiba America Consumer Products, and ten with Toshiba in product planning and product marketing. He was actively involved in launch of Toshiba TheaterView, TheaterWide, and Cinema Series display products, and was the key point person for the promotion and launch of DVD-Video in the United States for Toshiba Corporation. Mr. Eggers is a founding member of DVD Entertainment Group and has represented the industry and Toshiba on numerous panels and forum discussions. He began his career in retail, selling and installing commercial sound reinforcement products. He later spent five years with Sony's largest US distributor, where he was instrumental in early success of Video 8 products within his territory. Mr. Eggers holds a BA from the University of Cincinnati. Greg Rodehau will drive Dolby's push into the PC market, including its "Dolby in PC" initiative, as well as oversee the company's mission to expand Dolby's leading presence in the consumer gaming experience. Mr. Rodehau has more than ten years' experience in brand management and marketing strategy. Most recently, he was a senior marketing manager at NorthPoint Communications. He also worked at Hewlett-Packard, where he directed domestic and international marketing teams for HP's LaserJet printer and Jornada Handheld PC businesses. While at the H. J. Heinz Company, Mr. Rodehau managed the consumer marketing efforts for the Ore-Ida and Weight Watchers brands. He received his BS from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
